What’s new in Windows 11:
– Windows 11 will receive a completely new design. Microsoft clearly needs a good reason to reverse its previous claims and still abandon Windows 10 by introducing a new operating system number. And the brand new design is great for that. The Redmond giant has long been preparing a redesign for an update codenamed Sun Valley (“Sun Valley”); apparently, under this designation it is Windows 11. The Sun Valley project has appeared on the network for a long time: Microsoft regularly reveals stylistic details of new interfaces, experts share previously unknown information, and designers popular among themselves draw realistic concepts based on all these dates.
– Startup and system items will float above the bottom bar. Start is the calling card and face of every recent version of Windows. It is not surprising that in Windows 11 the developers change it again, but it will not work as visually – the Start window will scroll on the bottom bar. We have to admit that this small change makes the look of the system much fresher. According to information from the network, Microsoft will not radically change the “inside” of this menu; innovation will only affect the design of the window itself. The control panel will also float and the layout will be the same as “Home”. The activity center will be combined with control buttons; similar has long been used in other operating systems. Almost every mention of this new menu indicates that it will be an island: control buttons will be located on a separate panel, notifications on another, and certain elements (such as the player) on a separate one.
– Right angles will disappear, they will be replaced by fillets. In fact, insiders and concept designers differ on this matter: some are convinced that Microsoft will not change its tradition and keep the right angles, while others are convinced that in 2021 Microsoft will follow the fashion for fillets. The latter better fits the definition of “brand new Windows”: floating menus are not enough for a new design to be considered brand new. The files are expected to affect virtually the entire system, from context menus and system panels to all application windows. It is true that even on this topic the opinions of some of the concept designers differ: some draw fillets on all possible interface elements, others combine them with right angles.
– There will be a translucent background with blur around it. There are differences of opinion on the web about the style of the island views, corner layout and menu hover effects, but almost everyone agrees on the transparencyof the windows. Most of the leaks and layout renderings show transparency and fading in all windows, be it at least the Start menu or Explorer. Moreover, this effect is even manifested in the installation of the canceled Windows 10X operating system, which was developed by Microsoft for devices with two screens and poor tools in parallel with the Sun Valley project. The so-called acrylic transparency implies the use of new effects when moving over the elements, as well as an increase in the distance between the elements – the interface area with which the user interacts will certainly be larger, and the title of the page. it will be thicker.
– New fonts have been displayed. Windows 11 will most likely use the default responsive Segoe UI variable font, which already appeared in Windows 10 Build 21376 for Insiders. The advantage is that it is suitable for both small texts and large inscriptions. This distinguishes it from standard fonts, which were originally created for small or large sizes. For example, the stable version of Windows 10 now uses the Segoe UI font, designed for 9 points. On smaller inscriptions it is difficult to read and on large inscriptions it appears expressionless.
– Windows 11 will have a new icon and the Windows 95 icon will disappear. Yes, they are still used today. Microsoft will eventually change the icons used throughout the system. It’s not just shortcuts to folders, trash, and other icons found in Explorer. We are talking about all the icons found in the Shell32 directory. There are still icons from the Windows 95 era, and Microsoft recently updated their design at one of the expert meetings; they will migrate to Windows 11 of course.
– Windows 11 will have functional innovations; there are many, but they are all small. Much less is known about the features of the next update than its design. But since Windows 11 and Windows 10X (the canceled operating system for thin and foldable devices, the image of which was leaked online) were developed in parallel, we can safely assume that all the features of the latter will appear in Windows 11. For example, Windows 11 will show when the camera is using the computer; the corresponding indicator will be displayed in the system tray.
