At a hospital in Greece, 10-year-old Michael Morbius welcomes his brother Lucien, who gave him a new name, Milo; they are linked to common blood disease and the desire to be “normal”. His foster father and hospital director, Nicholas, arranges for Michael to attend medical school in New York City while focusing on Milo’s care.
Twenty-five years later, Michael publicly declined the Nobel Prize for his work with synthetic blood. Michael’s ally, Martine Bancroft, reveals that she has secretly seized several Costa Rican vampire bats in hopes of linking her genes with hers to treat her illness. After informing Nicholas and Milo of their planned illegal attempt, Michael receives money to build a private mercenary ship in international waters and its equipment. While the drug is working, he turns Michael into a vampire. Michael kills and bleeds his staff after a panic attack.
